Traditional Kelim Rugs – alternately spelled as Kelim, Killim, Kelim Rugs and Qilim – are flat weave wool rugs hand-woven by nomads based in various parts of Afghanistan and Turkey – whose exclusive variety is called Turkish Kilim and Afghan Kelim –Also Woven in Iran, Kashmir, Pakistan and India. These rugs are true labours of love: dedicated locals hand-weave them, gladly taking anything between four and twenty-four weeks to produce, perfect “Kelim Rugs” that their ancestors would be proud of. Why does it take so long to produce these exquisite Kelim Rugs? Because it takes a special, time-consuming technique to weave them and every piece is made out of 100% hand-woven, organically dyed sheep wool. The laborious weaving technique used by the locals is what gives Kelim Rugs the beautiful pattern that is exclusive to them; and the sheep wool coupled with the vegetable dye helps them last long without fading.

"Traditional Kelim Rugs are one of the most versatile rugs around. They are pleasing to look at and can fit well into any given setting."

STYLE

Traditional Kelim Rugs are decorated with geometric and simple patterns, as opposed to the intricate designs that Persian rugs are adorned with. Given their geometric patterns yet exotic, oriental make, kilim rugs can adorn a contemporary-looking room just as well as they can beautify a traditionally set one.

ON TREND

Traditional Kelim Rugs are almost always in vogue, mostly due to their functionality: since they do not possess a pile, and are woven, not knotted, the patterns on kilims are visible on either of their sides, which is why their obverse side can be displayed just as well as their front.
